We Did It!!

When this ballot initiative was confirmed to appear on the ballot two months ago, the Yes vote was outpolling us by 31 points. When the final vote came in last night, we had won by 10 points with 55 percent of the vote. That is simply incredible.

Our state concluded it was too big a danger to the health and welfare of women and families, and had too many unanswered questions about how much it would interfere with doctors' ability to perform in vitro fertilization, prevent women with life-threatening conditions like ectopic pregnancies from receiving care; and cut off access to common birth control methods like the pill and IUDs.

We were successful because over 40 days, we did this together:

  • made 412,699 phone calls
  • filled 797 volunteer shifts for getting out the vote
  • opened four campaign offices in Hattiesburg, Jackson, Oxford, and Gulfport
  • knocked on over 20,000 doors
  • built a strong Facebook community of over 5,500 that, in the last week of our campaign, had over half a million views of our posts

This campaign showed what a true grassroots effort can do. Thank you again for your support in this great victory for millions of Mississippi women and families.

Sincerely,

Mississippians for Healthy Families
